The project was about repairing an old stone-built windmill located on the islet of Kalamos, southeast of Lefkada, and converting it to a small house. This immediately provided a challenge due to the limited dimensions of the building, creating the need to take advantage of each and every inch available.

 

Other than the mill itself, a small living room was designed in an adjacent one-storey building towards the sea. At the same time, the mill’s masonry was completely repaired as it had suffered severe damage due to its direct proximity to the sea, repairs were made to the exterior space and a new stone wall was built on the perimeter of the property.
